5 things you probably didn’t know about James Gunn’s Suicide Squad Sequel

James Gunn Suicide Squad

A few months back, James Gunn was fired as director of Guardian of Galaxy 3 after his 10-year-old offensive tweets about subjects like pedophilia and rape and this whole thing turned very bad for Gunn’s career but as for now James Gunn reportedly in talks to write a screenplay for Suicide Squad 2 and could possibly direct the film and this could be a hope for the better establishment of the Gunn’s career and DC’s Suicide Squad.

So, that’s the news but here are the few things you probably don’t know about it…

 1. No Jared Leto’s Joker

Jared Leto Joker

There were many conflicts year back between Leto and the Suicide Squad movie editing as there was less screen area for Leto’s Joker and the character was not that popular among the fans. As for now Joaquin Phoenix has taken over the character and fans are loving it and another possible reason is the casting of Leto as Morbius ‘The Living Vampire’ for Sony and by adding all these Jared Leto’s Joker return doesn’t hold any possible entry.
So, a big NO for Jared Leto’s Joker.

2. David Ayer’s support and love for James Gunn

After Warner Bros official statement about hiring Gunn as the writer for Suicide Squad 2, David Ayer director of Suicide Squad tweets about the Gunn’s hiring and shows his sentiments towards James Gunn. The tweet says I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio. James is the right man for the job!

As David Ayer has been replaced by Gunn and that was something awesome because we don’t see that much support or any support when they replaced by another guy. As Ayer hasn’t left the DCEU and he is in talks about directing a standalone Harley Quin movie.

3. A get in for Dave Bautista

The wrestler/Actor Dave Bautista always have a soft corner for Gunn and has shown his support for Gunn’s firing from Guardian of Galaxy 3. Now he has jumped again and shown his interest to eagerly join the movie.
Bautista has played Drax in Marvel’s Guardian of Galaxy 1 & 2 and Avengers Infinity War 1 but after having offended tweets towards Disney and support for James Gunn, the actor reportedly said that I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.

4. Probably a reboot to the franchise

Critics panned the Suicide Squad writing and plot but anyhow the infamous characters were loved by the fans and smashed the box office collection $746 million dollars against a budget of $145 million dollars. Well, the film is in under production and Warner Bros. wants to start form the scratch, so it could be a totally new theme which new ideas and story.
We have seen James Gunn direction before and he has directed Guardian of Galaxy 1 & 2 which had multiple lead characters and Suicide Squad is somehow on the same page as Guardian of Galaxy. So, it could a good opportunity to have a good supervillain movie.

5. Gavin O’Connor is no longer in the picture

Last year, Gavin O’Connor is reportedly in talks of directing and writing the sequel of Suicide Squad with David Bar Katz and Todd Stashwick. Best known for directing The Accountant, the director exited the project due to the story of the sequel for being identical to the Birds of Prey which is based on the female superhero team. Birds of Prey will be released on February 2020 featuring Margot Robbie in lead role.
